Reflective Portraits in Negative
(2018)
Clear vinyl and acrylic paint
An early piece exploring self image in different warped forms. The process of creating itself was a meditative one where I took the printed black vinyl until I saw a faint but visible reflection of myself. I then tried to replicate the portrait reflected back to me in a series of different spots on the vinyl until the space was filled to a satisfying degree. I Finally ended the painting by repeatedly replicating the three dot scar on my face onto the clear sections of the vinyl to further tie the painting to myself.
This piece was featured in the solo exhibition The Getaway City (2019), hosted by the Godine Family Gallery
